Hearts on Fire – Youth Missions
Short-Term Missions Teams
Each summer, Corazón Ministries hosts visiting short-term youth mission teams. The teams are composed of middle school, high school, and college aged students. They come for one week and participate in outreaches for children, and construction and service projects for local Hispanic/Latino churches.
Each team goes through Cross-Cultural Training to kick off their week of missions with Corazón. During the week, they spend their mornings working on one or sometimes multiple construction projects for which they provide both the labor and resources. In the evenings, the team typically hosts a free, bilingual sports, arts, crafts, and music camp for children at a local Hispanic/Latino church. The children are also introduced to stories from the Bible and hear the Gospel message.
This missions program serves as a training ground to equip students to go back home and minister to Hispanics/Latinos in their own communities. The program also provides them with opportunities to interact with missionaries and ministry leaders, to be discipled and grow in their faith. Teams may join us from Tucson, the state of Arizona, or anywhere in the U.S. We have had student participants from California, Georgia, the Carolinas, Texas, Tennessee, Colorado and more!
Missions Training Camp Hearts on Fire
The inspiration for the Hearts on Fire team came from our short-term summer missions program. In 2013, a small group of high school students had the vision to develop a ministry that would inspire missions among the youth in the Church beyond the summer months. Hearts on Fire is a ministry for high school students interested in a career in missions and/or ministry. The Hearts on Fire team gathers monthly for training and service projects and in the summer, they attend a week-long missionary training camp.
At camp, Hearts on Fire students attend Cross-Cultural Training, missions and missionary training, and are exposed to ministry life. Corazón missionaries and team members share their testimonies, teach from the Word, and share their experiences of life and ministry. The students also have the opportunity to serve the local community as a part of their training. In the past, the Hearts on Fire team has served the community in a variety of ways:
- Feeding the homeless
- Ministering to children
- Ministering to the elderly
- Construction and landscaping projects
